That afternoon, Lincoln located Colt in the stables behind his house. “This place is looking good.”

Colt shot him a grin after he finished hammering the board on the stall. “Yeah, there’s not too much wear and tear on it. Amber made sure to keep it maintained while I was gone. Just want to make sure it’s ready for Tank and Daisy when they arrive.”

“You’re moving Tank back to the ranch?” Lincoln helped him lift the next board he was replacing, and held it as Colt nailed it in.

“I guess the news hasn’t broken yet. Was planning to announce it soon after we got past the wedding this weekend. Avery and I are moving back to the ranch.”

“Are you, really? That’s great news.” But it made him wonder how Amber was taking it. “What does Amber think?”

“Oh, she’s fine with it.”

“She’s fine with you taking over again?” Lincoln doubted that. And, if that wasn’t the case, he would be miffed at his buddy for doing that to her. Amber had done a great job with the ranch in Colt’s absence.

Colt shook his head with a slight laugh. “No. I might not be the brightest bulb in the socket, but even I know better than to do that. No, Amber will remain in the CEO position, and I will help out and fill in where needed.”

Lincoln would just bet she loved that idea. No wonder she had been so prickly lately. “What brought this move on, if you don’t mind me asking?”

“Avery’s pregnant. And after a lot of discussion, we both decided that we wanted a firm foundation and place to raise our kid. The ranch seemed like the best place.”

Lincoln slapped him on the back. “I hadn’t heard the news. Congrats, dude. How far along is she?”

“Three months; she’s due in late September.”

“I’m happy for you. Truly. It will be nice to have you back.”

“Thanks. Is there something you wanted?” Colt asked. The guy had always been rather perceptive.

Lincoln eyed the hammer Colt held in his hand, and decided to risk it. Colt wouldn’t bash his brains in for dating his sister. At least, he didn’t think that he would. Feeling rather sheepish, he rubbed a hand through his hair. “Yeah, the thing is, I’m dating your sister. Before things progress too far, I wanted to give you a heads up.”

Shock filtered over Colt’s face, followed by confusion. “I see. But I thought she was dating that Brecken fellow.”

“Yeah, she’s sort of dating both of us until she figures out which one she wants to be with.” It still chafed that she could be with Lincoln and lose control the way she did, but still be considering the other guy.

At his response, Colt burst out laughing. The dude laughed so hard, he slapped his chest with the hand not holding the hammer.

“What’s so funny?”

“I appreciate you telling me. Amber’s a grown woman, and I have no control over who she dates, nor do I want that. And I don’t have to tell you not to hurt her.
